But the new E-Class coupe is huge up close.
Someone in my neighborhood has a 2014 black E350 coupe, and I swear it seems much smaller...
Perhaps I’m crazy.
Also going even further back, I kind of want an E500 wagon

The previous E-Class coupe and convertible (and the CLK as well) were based on the C-Class plataform, that’s why they are a smaller. T he current coupe and convertible are full fat E-Class goodness

If I ever need to drive something “serious” and “classy” then I’ll rock a mildly-tuned W207. Like this one I found on the internet:
Just a little less lowering and a little more Brabus upgrades under the hood, and it’s the perfect German executive muscle car.
Also PILLARLESS COUPE!

My F30 328i is practically the same size as my friend’s E39 530i. 6 inches shorter but interior room is very comparable.

The gap between the E500 and your Spertcross is probably as big as the gap between the Spertcross and the Tercel.

I actually like that one and usually I don’t like those. I like the pillarless coupe but some of the details already feel ehhhh when compared to the new one and the older ones. That one though makes me feel a certain way.

It’s not just you, the new E-Class coupe is a half size bigger than the old one.
But that’s because the C-Class coupe is now the size of the old E-Class coupe.
And the S-Class coupe is way bigger.
(Don’t mind the sedan graphic, those are the coupe dimensions, this is the sedan.)

I think it’s because Mercedes has never //AMG’d the E-Class coupe. It looks so much more aggressive and purposeful with the star in the grille instead of on the hood. The bumper and Black-Series style fenders help too.

They did make the regular and AMG Line front ends of the new one more angry though...

They’ve pulled an Audi-esque homogenization of their product line with the latest generation. It’s difficult to tell if those are E-Class, C-Class, or S-Class at that angle. The side glass is a giveaway as the E maintains a level beltline while the C and S do not.
That said, I ’ll take a W207 with a bodykit. Still looks better.

Those W211 E500 wagons are honestly confident highway cruisers, especially in 4matic form. That interior though is showing its age
